Brezno Hospital Turns 50 Thanks to Support from the ŽP Foundation

We have already highlighted the strong bond between Železiarne Podbrezová (ŽP) – our parent company – and Brezno Hospital, a relationship strengthened over the years thanks to the ongoing commitment of the ŽP Foundation, ŽP’s association dedicated to supporting the local area and its communities. After contributing to the modernization of departments and the improvement of healthcare services, ŽP now celebrates an important milestone together with the hospital: its 50th anniversary.

On this special occasion, ŽP presents a new initiative that combines memory and innovation: the Retro Clinic, a space that showcases what healthcare was like decades ago and emphasizes the human and historical value of a facility that has always served the region.

Retro Clinic at Brezno Hospital – A Journey of Nostalgia in the Service of Health

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the opening of Brezno Hospital with Polyclinic, the management decided to bring visitors a touch of history. On the second floor of the polyclinic, a retro clinic was ceremonially opened, offering a glimpse into the past of healthcare and reminding us what doctors’ offices once looked like.

A memory of the hospital’s beginnings

The Brezno Hospital opened its doors on September 15, 1975. Over time, it built a capacity of more than 320 beds and provides medical care in internal medicine, surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, pediatrics, and intensive care. In 1999, it was granted the status of a higher-type hospital, and since 2003 it has operated as a non-profit organization.

Today, the retro clinic allows visitors to travel back several decades and see what healthcare looked like in times without modern equipment and digital technologies. It is an exhibition that carries not only historical value but also a message of humanity and solidarity.

Železiarne Podbrezová – founder and long-term partner of the hospital

Železiarne Podbrezová a.s. is one of the founders of the hospital and has been contributing to its development for decades. Through the ŽP Foundation, we have supported various medical departments several times – most recently by donating 51 contactless infrared thermometers, which improved the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities.

The opening of the retro clinic brings a new dimension to the hospital – it allows patients and visitors to look into the past and understand how healthcare has evolved over the decades.

Retro clinic – a bridge between history and today

The newly opened retro clinic is not only a place of memories but also a symbol of continuity – a reminder that healthcare changes, but its core remains the same: caring for human health. The realization of this exhibition was also supported by Železiarne Podbrezová, which has long cooperated with the hospital and supports projects connecting the community and the history of healthcare.
